Diagnosing Thyroid Dysfunction

Many health issues including metabolic problems like chronic fatigue, weight loss and gain and extreme sensitivity to cold and heat can be linked back to problems within the thyroid gland. Thyroid dysfunction causes a hormonal imbalance within the body that leads to these common health complications.

Diagnosing thyroid dysfunction, however, has its own set of complications. Many methods of testing used have been shown to be inaccurate as they alter thyroid function in the process of testing thereby producing false results. In addition methods such as Nuclear scans and x-rays are very invasive and require that the patient be injected with radioactive dye.

Recognizing Thyroid DysfunctionIt’s no wonder more and more individuals are gravitating to healthcare practitioners that offer a dental and thyroid screening tool called Thermography. This non-invasive screening method uses infrared imaging to look for significant temperature asymmetry between the lobes or a temperature variation between the thyroid gland and its surrounding structures. By using this non-radiologic method in combination with the individual’s history and a standard physical examination, Thermography is able to provide a much more comprehensive view of the patient’s thyroid and any issues it may have.

To review: Thermography does not require the use of injection of radioactive dye. It is non-invasive and is performed without even touching the body. It uses heat imagery to form it’s picture so the body is not exposed to harmful radioactive waves. Finally thermographic screenings do not alter the function of the thyroid while the test is being administered allowing for a more natural and accurate portrayal of the gland’s function.
