My husband and I had the good fortune to attend two amazing conferences last month. The first one was the Agape “Revelations” conference in Los Angeles and more recently the “Celebrate Your Life” conference in Chicago. Both of the events were “off the chain”, full of laughter, love, spirituality, connectedness, singing and dancing.
We heard absolutely wonderful, inspirational speakers, got our books signed by the authors and got lots of pictures taken with them. The Agape Revelations theme was “Listen and Unlearn” and in Chicago the theme was to “Celebrate Your Life”. The message being, live your life now, not some time in the future. Don’t put your life on the lay-away plan, live here, now!! The speakers encouraged the participants not only to live in the present but to thrive in the present; to live a life with abundant peace, joy, love etc. Another theme running through the two conferences is that we have a great deal to do with how our lives are going. Many of the speakers urged the attendees to move out of the role of victim-hood and to appreciate the good things in their lives, because what ever we focus on multiplies exponentially. In other words, adopt an attitude of gratitude. That does not minimize the things that are going on in the world around us because there sure are a lot of things going on. A recurrent message was about how to stay focused, get clear about how you want your life to be, how to be an authentic person, how to practice self love and forgiveness; how to stay grounded and get still through prayer and meditation. And, if I dare say, how to remain peaceful and joyful in spite of what is going on around you.
In the words of Gandhi, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
The banner behind us says: “Celebrate your life, be inspired, connection, honor your spirit, feed your soul, love. It ends with a quote by Ariel Wolfe, one of the original founders of the conference, “Walk your path with dancing feet and a song in your heart.”
If we want to see change in the world, then we, as individuals and collectively have to change…the time is now and we are the people responsible for making it happen!
