Early, Non-Invasive, and Safe Detection Method – Breast thermography is a unique non-invasive technique that can reveal abnormalities in breast tissue at a very early stage. Thermography relies on tissue heat differences, using an infrared camera to detect physiological changes which are known to be associated with cancerous or pre-cancerous states. This approach is unaffected by factors like breast density, implants, or surgical scars, and no contact or harmful radiation is involved.
Early, Non-Invasive, and Safe Detection Method – Breast Thermography
Breast Thermography vs. Mammography
Thermography identifies changes at the cellular level and can detect neoangiogenesis – the
process of new blood vessel formation that feeds growing abnormalities – approximately eight to ten years earlier than traditional methods. This proactive detection strategy offers a unique
opportunity to view physiological changes at the earliest stages of tumor formation.
Unlike mammography, which is associated with radiation exposure and unnecessary painful
biopsies, thermography poses no such risks. In fact, mammography compresses the breast
tissue with substantial force, potentially disseminating cells and spreading cancer, a concern
raised as far back as 1928.
Breast thermography boasts an impressive research background, with over 60 years of study,
one thousand peer-reviewed articles, and a database of more than 500,000 women. A persistently abnormal thermogram indicates a 22-fold increased risk of developing breast cancer, providing crucial early warning.
The method’s average sensitivity and specificity stand at 90%. However, when used as part of a comprehensive, multi-faceted detection strategy, thermography can lead to the early detection of 95% of early-stage cancers, potentially increasing the long-term survival rate by up to 60%.
