Bras and Cancer Risk

Bras and Cancer Risk

It has been a long standing theory that wearing a bra can increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer. Although more research needs to be done on the subject, many doctors and healthcare professionals agree that wearing certain types of bras or even ill-fitting bras can lead to an increased risk for breast cancer.

Bras and Cancer RiskThe theory is based on the idea that certain bras or bras that fit too tightly inhibit the drainage of a person’s lymph drainage. Since the lymphatic system is linked to the immune system it is crucial that they be allowed uninhibited drainage in order to filter toxins from the body as they are intended. Improper drainage leads to the buildup of harmful agents within the body that have been linked to certain forms of breast cancer development.

There are ways, however, to combat this issue without ridding yourself of bras completely.

  • When buying a new bra speak with a sales person and ask them to take your measurements to ensure you purchase a bra that is not too tight.
  • When buying a new bra try not to purchase anything with an underwire as the metal will cause pressure underneath the breasts inhibiting blood flow.
  • If you have bras with underwire simply cut a tiny hole at the end where the metal begins and slide the metal underwire out of your bra. In addition to cutting off lymphatic flow, under wires act like an antenna for electromagnetic frequencies coming off of all of wifi gadgets.  An interesting experiment with under wires is to get your car fob, (the little thing that opens up your car door), and hold it against an underwire bra that you are wearing. In most cases the conductivity in the underwire will open your car door.

It is important to remember to speak with your healthcare practitioner regularly to determine a breast screening plan that works for you.
