Benefits of Water

Benefits of WaterYou don’t have to be a doctor or health expert to know that the body needs water in order to function. After all, about 60% of the body is made up of water so giving that 60% what it needs to thrive is crucial. While water isn’t some sort of magic, cure-all, elixir it does have numerous health benefits beyond simple hydration that most people tend to overlook.

  1. Weight loss — By replacing soda or other high calorie beverages with water, your calorie intake is curbed significantly. In addition, foods with higher water volume like fruits, vegetables and beans are absorbed more slowly making the body feel fuller.
  2. Skin care — Dehydration has a tendency to make skin look more worn, wrinkled and dry. Drinking plenty of water every day helps to keep skin looking firmer and moisturized.
  3. Detoxification — The areas of your body, like the kidneys, that take care of filtering the toxins out of your body need plenty of water to do their jobs properly.

The recommended daily intake of water is half of your body weight. For instance, if you weigh 140lbs you should drink 70 ounces of water a day.  If the thought of drinking all that water is unappealing try adding lemon, lime, cucumber or even blueberries to your water.  Also you want to get pure or filtered water, preferably from a glass bottle, this way you don’t have to worry about the plastic and it is less of a load on the environment. All of those plastic water bottles are really piling up. If you are drinking water out of plastic make sure it is PBA free plastic.
