Reiki: pronounced Ray Key is a combination of two Japanese words Rei and Ki meaning Universal Life energy. It is an ancient laying-on of hands healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal and balance the subtle energies in our bodies. Reiki practitioners use the energy and hand positions to heal physical ailments, balance the system and reduce pain. It promotes healing of the whole person; mind, body and spirit. Reiki can help to dissolve energy blockages that could lead to illness. With each succeeding healing session, the client’s energy system regains more and more of its healthy configuration. The old habits of unbalance and dis-ease are slowly dissolved.
During a Reiki session the individual stays fully clothed and lies down on a massage table. Reiki is a gentle laying on of hands utilizing twenty or so different hand positions. It is often called “Smart” energy because it will automatically flow to those areas that need the most healing, regardless of where the practitioners hand are. The amount of time for a session varies, but is generally an hour. Some people experience a feeling of warmth emanating from the practitioners hands, most report a feeling of deep relaxation and inner peace.
